  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

In the archiving process, when deleting archived material documents the
system creates archive representatives for the quantities and values of
the material documents to be deleted. To further reduce the data volume
these archive representatives are consolidated during the post
processing step. To ensure that this happens in a consistent way, the
corresponding archive representatives may not be changed in a concurrent
transaction. To ensure this, in certain cases locks are raised for the
material and plant the archive representatives refer to.
In the given case an exclusive lock has already been raised for material
&V1& and plant &V2& in a concurrent process.

    System Response

The archive representatives are not consolidated.

    How to fix this error?

Check that the corresponding material and plant is not locked anymore.
Then restart the post processing program.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message NSDM_MM_ARCHIVING011 - Archive representatives not consolidated because lock cannot be obtained ?

The SAP error message NSDM_MM_ARCHIVING011 indicates that the archiving process for materials management (MM) could not be completed because the system was unable to obtain a lock on the necessary data. This typically occurs in scenarios where multiple processes are trying to access the same data simultaneously, leading to a contention for locks.

    Causes:

    1. Concurrent Processes: Another process may be currently accessing the data that needs to be archived, preventing the lock from being obtained.
    2. Long-Running Transactions: A transaction that takes a long time to complete may hold the lock longer than expected, causing other processes to fail in obtaining the lock.
    3. System Configuration: Configuration settings related to locking mechanisms or archiving processes may not be optimal.
    4. Database Issues: There may be underlying database issues that affect locking behavior.

    Solutions:

    1. Check for Active Processes: Use transaction codes like SM50 or SM66 to monitor active processes. Identify if there are any long-running jobs or transactions that are holding locks on the data you are trying to archive.
    2. Wait and Retry: If the issue is due to temporary contention, waiting for a while and then retrying the archiving process may resolve the issue.
    3. Optimize Long-Running Transactions: If you identify specific transactions that are taking too long, consider optimizing them or scheduling them during off-peak hours.
    4. Review Lock Configuration: Check the configuration settings related to locking in your SAP system. Ensure that they are set up correctly to minimize contention.
    5. Database Maintenance: Perform regular database maintenance to ensure that the database is functioning optimally, which can help with locking issues.
    6. Consult SAP Notes: Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional troubleshooting steps.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with transaction codes like SM12 (to view and manage locks) and SARA (for archiving).
    • SAP Documentation: Review SAP documentation related to archiving in the Materials Management module for best practices and guidelines.
    • System Logs: Check system logs (transaction SLG1) for any additional error messages or warnings that may provide more context about the issue.
