Message type: E = Error
Message class: MW - Messages IS-R / Allocation Tables
Message number: 319
Message text: Plant & not maintained for generic material, but for variant (item &)
In processing the generic material, you entered a different allocation
rule, plant group or plant or tried to delete previously entered
allocation rules, plant groups or plants.
The plant displayed in the message applies to a variant, but is not one
of the plants currently maintained (that is, after you made the change)
for the generic material.
For the variants of a generic material created using a matrix, the
system only allows you to use plants that are also valid for the generic
material.
This allows you to be able to call up the variant matrix for all plants
(for the generic material) at plant level.
Check your entries and make any necessary corrections.

MW319
- Plant & not maintained for generic material, but for variant (item &) ?The SAP error message MW319 indicates that a plant is not maintained for a generic material, but it is required for a specific variant of that material. This typically occurs in the context of variant configuration, where a generic material (often referred to as a configurable material) is used to create specific variants based on customer requirements.
Cause:
- Missing Plant Assignment: The generic material does not have a plant assignment in the material master data. This means that the system cannot determine where the material is to be produced or stored.
- Configuration Settings: The configuration settings for the material may not be properly set up, leading to the inability to assign a plant to the generic material.
- Material Type Restrictions: The material type of the generic material may have restrictions that prevent the assignment of a plant.
Solution:
Maintain Plant Data:
- Go to the Material Master (Transaction Code: MM02).
- Enter the generic material number and select the relevant views (e.g., Basic Data, Sales, MRP).
- Ensure that the plant data is maintained for the generic material. You may need to add a plant and specify relevant details such as storage location, purchasing data, and sales data.
Check Configuration Settings:
- Ensure that the configuration settings for the material are correctly set up. This includes checking the configuration profile and ensuring that the dependencies are correctly defined.
Review Material Type:
- Check if the material type allows for plant assignments. If there are restrictions, you may need to consult with your SAP administrator or functional consultant to understand the implications and possible changes.
Use Transaction Codes:
- Use transaction codes like MM03 to view the material master data and confirm the absence of plant assignments.
- Use transaction code CU50 to check the configuration of the material and its variants.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or help files related to variant configuration and material master data to ensure compliance with best practices.
