  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MW190 - Internal number assignment not defined (object &, interval &) ?

The SAP error message MW190, which states "Internal number assignment not defined (object &, interval &)," typically occurs when there is an issue with the number range configuration for a specific object in the SAP system. This error indicates that the system is unable to assign a new number because the number range for the specified object is not properly defined or is missing.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Number Range Object: The number range object for the specific document type or transaction is not defined in the system.
    2. Number Range Interval Not Defined: The number range interval for the object is not set up, or it has been deleted or deactivated.
    3. Number Range Exhaustion: The defined number range has been exhausted, meaning all available numbers in the range have been used up.
    4. Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to access or create entries in the specified number range.

    Solution:

    1. Check Number Range Configuration:

      • Go to transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
      • Enter the object name that corresponds to the error message and check if it exists.
      • If it does not exist, you may need to create it or consult with your SAP Basis or configuration team.
    2. Define Number Range Intervals:

      • If the object exists, check the intervals by going to transaction code SNRO and selecting the object.
      • Ensure that there are defined intervals for the number range. If not, you will need to create a new interval.
      • Make sure that the intervals are active and not set to "not available."
    3. Check for Exhaustion:

      • If the number range is defined but exhausted, you may need to extend the range or create a new interval with a larger range.
      • This can be done in the same SNRO transaction by editing the existing intervals.
    4. User Authorizations:

      • Ensure that the user encountering the error has the necessary authorizations to use the number range. This can be checked in transaction code SU01 (User Maintenance) or by consulting with your security team.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific guidance related to the object in question.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • SNRO: Number Range Objects
      • SN01: Display Number Ranges

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address specific issues related to number range configuration.
