  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MPN02001 - Part & is not a leading part, planning is not allowed ?

The SAP error message MPN02001, which states "Part & is not a leading part, planning is not allowed," typically occurs in the context of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) when dealing with multi-level BOMs (Bill of Materials) and planning scenarios involving variant configuration or similar setups.

    Cause:

    1. Non-Leading Part: The part in question is not designated as a leading part in the context of the planning scenario. In SAP, a leading part is usually the main component that drives the planning process, while non-leading parts are secondary components that do not initiate planning.
    2. Configuration Issues: The material may not be properly configured in the system, or it may not be set up to be planned in the way you are attempting.
    3. BOM Structure: The BOM structure may not be correctly defined, leading to the system not recognizing the part as a valid component for planning.
    4. Planning Strategy: The planning strategy assigned to the material may not allow for planning of non-leading parts.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master: Verify the material master data for the part in question. Ensure that it is set up correctly and that it is marked as a leading part if that is appropriate for your planning scenario.
    2. Review BOM Configuration: Check the BOM configuration to ensure that the part is included correctly and that the structure is valid. Make sure that the leading part is correctly defined in the BOM.
    3. Adjust Planning Strategy: If the planning strategy does not allow for the planning of non-leading parts, consider changing the strategy or adjusting the configuration to allow for the necessary planning.
    4. Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team to understand the specific requirements for your planning scenario and how to configure the materials accordingly.
    5. Use Transaction Codes: Utilize relevant transaction codes such as CS03 (Display BOM) or MM03 (Display Material) to check the details of the material and BOM.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional guidance on configuration.
