Message class: MMRP01 - Rapid Planning Matrix
Message number: 242
Message text: Components of a phantom assembly: only quantity changes possible
For a component of a phantom assembly, you tried to change a different
attribute other than the quantity. However, for components of phantom
assemblies you can only change the quantity.
The system cannot change the planned order.
If you want to change the material or the component variant for a
component of a phantom assembly, you can only do so by changing the
master data (product structure of the phantom assembly). Such a change,
however, only has any effect if you create new planned orders or if you
reexplode existing planned orders with the planning matrix.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

MMRP01242
- Components of a phantom assembly: only quantity changes possible ?The SAP error message MMRP01242 indicates that you are trying to perform an operation on a phantom assembly that is not allowed. Phantom assemblies are used in SAP to simplify the bill of materials (BOM) for production processes. They are treated as a single entity in planning and production, but they do not exist as physical items in inventory.
Cause:
The error occurs when you attempt to perform an operation (such as changing the quantity or making other modifications) on a phantom assembly that is not permitted. This typically happens in the following scenarios:
- Modification Restrictions: You may be trying to change the structure of the phantom assembly (e.g., adding or removing components) instead of just adjusting the quantity.
- System Configuration: The system is configured to allow only certain types of changes to phantom assemblies, primarily quantity adjustments.
- Incorrect Transaction: You might be using a transaction that is not suitable for modifying phantom assemblies.
Solution:
To resolve the MMRP01242 error, consider the following steps:
- Check the Operation: Ensure that you are only trying to change the quantity of the phantom assembly and not attempting to modify its structure or components.
- Use the Correct Transaction: Make sure you are using the appropriate transaction code for the operation you are trying to perform. For example, if you are trying to adjust quantities, use transactions like
MB1A
,MB1B
, orCO11N
as applicable.- Review BOM Structure: If you need to make structural changes to the phantom assembly, you will need to do this in the BOM (Bill of Materials) maintenance transaction (e.g.,
CS02
for changing BOMs) rather than directly in the production order or other transactions.- Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on working with phantom assemblies and the limitations associated with them.
Related Information:
If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or refer to SAP Notes for any specific patches or updates related to this error message.
