Message text: Sales data cannot be maintained because unit of weight is lock-relevant
You have locked the material. Since the field <LS>Unit of weight</> has
been flagged in Customizing for the <LS>Material Master</> as
lock-relevant, this field can no longer be maintained after the
material is locked. As a result, sales data can no longer be created
because a unit of weight must be entered in order to create this data.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
If it is absolutely necessary to create sales data, unlock the material
and maintain the field <LS>Unit of weight</>. Then relock the material.
<ZH>Important</>
When a material has been locked and saved, it can be unlocked only with
a special authorization, and only if it is not used in Configuration
Management.

MM651
- Sales data cannot be maintained because unit of weight is lock-relevant ?The SAP error message MM651 indicates that you are trying to maintain sales data for a material, but the unit of weight is "lock-relevant." This typically occurs when the material is set up in a way that prevents changes to certain data due to the configuration of the unit of measure (UoM) settings.
Cause:
- Lock-Relevant Unit of Measure: The unit of weight (e.g., kilograms, grams) is marked as lock-relevant in the material master. This means that certain data cannot be changed while the material is in a locked state for that unit of measure.
- Material Master Configuration: The material master may have been configured in such a way that it restricts changes to sales data when the unit of weight is involved.
- Sales Data Maintenance: You may be trying to change sales data (like sales price, conditions, etc.) for a material that has a lock-relevant unit of measure.
Solution:
Check Material Master Settings:
- Go to the material master record (transaction code
MM03
).- Check the unit of measure settings in the Basic Data and Sales views.
- Ensure that the unit of weight is not set as lock-relevant if you need to maintain sales data.
Unlock the Material:
- If the material is locked, you may need to unlock it. This can typically be done by changing the status of the material or by using specific transactions to unlock it.
- You may need to consult with your SAP administrator or someone with the appropriate authorizations to unlock the material.
Review Configuration:
- If you have access to configuration settings, check the settings for units of measure in the customizing (transaction code
SPRO
).- Look for settings related to lock-relevant units of measure and adjust them if necessary.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or help files related to material master data and units of measure for more detailed guidance.
