Message text: The higher-level units of measure will be changed accordingly
You have changed the conversion factors for a unit of measure. The
higher-level units of measure that exist for this unit of measure will
be changed accordingly.
Example
Your base unit of measure is <LS>piece</>. 12 pieces fit into a box,
and 10 boxes fit onto a pallet. You change the box size so that only 6
pieces fit into a box. The system automatically increases the number of
boxes that fit onto a pallet to 20.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Check the conversion factors for the higher-level units of measure and
change them if required.

MM118
- The higher-level units of measure will be changed accordingly ?The SAP error message MM118, "The higher-level units of measure will be changed accordingly," typically occurs in the context of material management when there is a discrepancy or inconsistency in the units of measure (UoM) for a material. This message is often seen during transactions involving inventory management, purchasing, or production planning.
Cause:
- Unit of Measure Configuration: The error can arise when the system detects that the higher-level unit of measure (e.g., a box or pallet) does not match the lower-level unit of measure (e.g., individual items) based on the defined conversion factors.
- Material Master Data: If the material master data is not correctly set up, particularly in the Units of Measure tab, it can lead to inconsistencies.
- Transaction Context: The error may occur during specific transactions where the system attempts to convert quantities between different units of measure, and the conversion is not valid or not defined.
Solution:
Check Material Master Data:
- Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03) and check the Units of Measure tab.
- Ensure that the higher-level and lower-level units of measure are correctly defined and that the conversion factors are accurate.
Review Conversion Factors:
- Verify that the conversion factors between the different units of measure are set correctly. For example, if 1 box contains 10 items, ensure that this is reflected in the material master.
Adjust Transaction Data:
- If you are entering data in a transaction (like a goods receipt or purchase order), ensure that the units of measure you are using are compatible with the material master settings.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or help files related to unit of measure settings and conversions for further guidance.
Testing:
- After making changes, perform a test transaction to ensure that the error does not reoccur.
