  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MM113 - The base unit of measure for the material & is locked by the user & ?

The SAP error message MM113 indicates that the base unit of measure for a material is locked by a user. This typically occurs when a user is trying to perform an operation (like changing the material master data) on a material whose base unit of measure is currently being edited or locked by another user.

    Cause:

    1. User Lock: Another user is currently editing the material master data, which includes the base unit of measure.
    2. Transaction in Progress: A transaction that involves the material is still in progress, preventing changes to the base unit of measure.
    3. System Lock: The system may have a temporary lock due to a previous operation that did not complete successfully.

    Solution:

    1. Check User Locks:

      • Use transaction code SM12 to check for user locks on the material. Look for the user who has locked the material and the specific lock entry.
      • If you have the necessary permissions, you can delete the lock entry if you determine that the user is no longer working on it.
    2. Wait for Release:

      • If another user is legitimately working on the material, you may need to wait until they finish their task and release the lock.
    3. Communicate with Users:

      • If you identify that another user is working on the material, communicate with them to understand when they expect to finish.
    4. Check for Background Jobs:

      • Sometimes, background jobs may also lock materials. Use transaction code SM37 to check for any background jobs that might be running and holding locks on the material.
    5. System Restart:

      • In rare cases, if the lock persists and you cannot identify the cause, a system restart may be necessary, but this should be done with caution and typically requires coordination with your SAP Basis team.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • SM12: To view and manage user locks.
      • SM37: To check background jobs.
      • MM02: To change material master data (once the lock is resolved).
    • User Roles: Ensure that you have the appropriate authorizations to view and manage locks.
