The SAP error message MK038 indicates that there is an issue with the unit of measure (UoM) associated with a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) for a specific material. This error typically arises in scenarios involving inventory management, material master data, or when processing transactions related to goods movements, sales orders, or deliveries.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Unit of Measure: The specified unit of measure for the GTIN does not exist in the material master data.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: The GTIN may not be correctly configured in the system, or the UoM may not be assigned to the GTIN.
    3. Data Inconsistency: There may be inconsistencies in the material master data, such as missing or incorrect entries in the UoM or GTIN fields.
    4. Material Master Not Extended: The material master may not be extended to the relevant plant or storage location where the transaction is being processed.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master Data:

      • Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03).
      • Verify that the GTIN is correctly assigned to the material.
      • Check the unit of measure settings to ensure that the required UoM is defined for the GTIN.
    2. Maintain Unit of Measure:

      • If the UoM is missing, you can add it by using transaction code MM02 to change the material master data.
      • Navigate to the "Units of Measure" view and add the necessary UoM for the GTIN.
    3. Check GTIN Configuration:

      • Ensure that the GTIN is correctly configured in the system. You can check this in the "Basic Data" view of the material master.
      • If necessary, create or update the GTIN using transaction code MM01 or MM02.
    4. Extend Material Master:

      • If the material is not extended to the relevant plant or storage location, use transaction code MM01 to extend the material master to the required areas.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific configurations related to GTIN and UoM.

    Related Information:
