Message type: E = Error
Message class: MH - Maintain Material Master Data (Retail)
Message number: 343
Message text: No mass changes to field &1 are possible as the field is not supported
You have tried to make a mass change to field &V1&.
Mass changes can only be made to a restricted number of fields. The
following conditions mean that selected fields may not be changed using
the mass maintenance function:
Field was not taken from template handling
Fields that have not been taken from template handling should be
changed in the material master maintenance function using the template
plants. Changes can then be sent to the affected plants as mass
changes, thereby avoiding the necessity to make individual changes for
each individual plant. If a mass change were to be made for these
fields, variance handling should be run to ascertain if different data
appears for different plants, when compared to the data for the
template plant. Any changes that may be recognized may be due to mass
data changes.
Field is only used for internal processing and cannot be maintained
online or in ALE/data transfer
Mass changes should only be made to data that can be changed online or
in ALE/data transfer, or when online processing or ALE processing is
too slow to ensure that the changes can be made correctly and with
reasonably stable system performance.
Field is not used in Retail
Some fields in table MARC are not used in Retail as they are intended
for production/manufacturing systems. These fields are excluded from
any mass data changes. This means that some checks can be avoided.
Field has a comlex check function
Some fields can only be changed after certain complex checks have been
run. These checks may also include the reading of document data or
stock data. Any fields requiring complex checks to be run should not be
included in any mass data checks.
Field contains a profile
Profiles can be used for forecasting data and planning data. If the
planning or forecasting profile is change, the write-protected fields
in the profile have to be adjusted to match the values in the profile.
This profile logic is not, currently, included in the mass change
function as the profile fields cannot, normally, be taken from template
handling and therefore cannot be used.
Field is used in two tables at the same time and different settings
have been made to template handling for the field in both tables
Fields MINBE, EISBE and DISMM are used in tables MARC and WRPL. Fields
PERKZ and PERIV are used in tables MARC and MPOP. These fields must
have been taken out of template handling for MARC and WRPL or from MARC
or MPOP, so that mass data changes could be made.
Field is a key field in the relevant table
A mass data change is only possible for non-key fields because changing
a key field is equal to deleting or adding a data record.

- Identify the Field: Determine which field is causing the error by checking the error message details. The
&1
placeholder in the message will indicate the specific field.- Check Field Properties: Review the properties of the field in the data dictionary (SE11) or through the relevant transaction to understand why it is not supported for mass changes.
- Use Individual Changes: If mass changes are not possible, consider updating the records individually through the appropriate transaction or program.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources to understand the limitations of mass changes for the specific field.
- Custom Development: If mass changes are essential for your business process, consider discussing with your SAP development team to explore the possibility of custom development or enhancements that allow for mass updates under controlled conditions.
