  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MEREP_00552 - To use a diff. lang. item, delete existing mappings in current structure ?

The SAP error message MEREP_00552 typically occurs in the context of using different language versions of materials or items in the SAP system. This error indicates that there are existing mappings in the current structure that prevent the use of a different language item.

    Cause:

The error arises when you attempt to use a different language version of an item (such as a material or product) that has existing mappings in the current structure. This can happen in scenarios such as:

    • Trying to change the language of a material description or other attributes while there are still references or mappings to the original language version.
    • The system has constraints that require all mappings to be cleared before a new language version can be utilized.

    Solution:

To resolve the error, you need to delete the existing mappings associated with the current structure. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Identify Existing Mappings:

      • Use transaction codes like MM03 (Display Material) or MM02 (Change Material) to check the existing mappings for the material in question.
      • Look for any language-specific data that might be causing the conflict.
    2. Delete Mappings:

      • If you have identified the mappings that are causing the issue, you can delete them. This can typically be done in the material master data maintenance screens.
      • Ensure that you are in the correct view (e.g., Basic Data, Sales Data) and delete the language-specific entries that are no longer needed.
    3. Check for Dependencies:

      • Before deleting mappings, ensure that there are no dependencies or references that might be affected by this change. This is crucial to avoid data integrity issues.
    4. Re-attempt the Operation:

      • After deleting the necessary mappings, try to use the different language item again. The error should no longer occur if the mappings have been cleared correctly.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • If you are unsure about the mappings or the implications of deleting them, consult the SAP documentation or reach out to your SAP support team for guidance.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as MM01 (Create Material), MM02 (Change Material), and MM03 (Display Material) for managing material data.
    • Language Settings: Understand how language settings work in SAP, especially in relation to material master data.
    • Data Integrity: Always ensure that changes made to mappings do not compromise the integrity of your data or the functionality of related processes.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP Basis or functional team for further investigation.
