into the active area unless the change request contains only data for
    one material.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MDG_BS_MAT_ACCESS008 - Change request &1 cannot have more than one material with classification ?

The SAP error message MDG_BS_MAT_ACCESS008 indicates that a change request in the Master Data Governance (MDG) system is attempting to process more than one material that has the same classification. This situation typically arises when you are trying to create or modify multiple materials in a single change request, and those materials share the same classification.

    Cause:

    1. Multiple Materials with Same Classification: The error occurs when the change request includes multiple materials that are classified under the same classification type. In MDG, each classification type can only be associated with one material in a change request to maintain data integrity.
    2. Data Model Restrictions: The underlying data model in MDG may have restrictions that prevent multiple materials with the same classification from being processed together in a single change request.

    Solution:

    1. Separate Change Requests: The most straightforward solution is to separate the materials into different change requests. Ensure that each change request contains only one material with its associated classification.
    2. Review Change Request Contents: Check the contents of the change request to identify which materials are causing the conflict. Remove or separate the materials that share the same classification.
    3. Adjust Classification: If applicable, consider adjusting the classification of the materials so that they do not conflict. However, this may not always be feasible depending on business requirements.
    4. Consult Documentation: Review the MDG documentation or consult with your SAP support team to understand any specific configurations or restrictions that may apply to your system.

    Related Information:

    • MDG Configuration: Understanding the configuration settings in your MDG system can help prevent similar issues in the future. Check the settings related to material classification and change request processing.
    • SAP Notes: Look for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional guidance on handling classification in change requests.
    • Training and Best Practices: Ensure that users involved in creating change requests are trained on best practices for managing materials and classifications in MDG to minimize the occurrence of such errors.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the error and successfully process your change requests in SAP MDG.
