  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MCEX167 - Update mode changed directly from delta -> Note long text ?

The SAP error message MCEX167 indicates that there has been a change in the update mode of a data source from "delta" to "full" or "initial" without following the proper procedures. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when dealing with data extraction from SAP ERP or other sources.

    Cause:

    The error arises when:

    • A delta data source is being used, but the system detects that the update mode has been changed directly to a non-delta mode (like full or initial).
    • This can happen if the data source is not properly configured or if there are inconsistencies in the data extraction settings.
    • It may also occur if there are changes made to the data source in the source system that are not reflected in the BW system.

    Solution:

To resolve the MCEX167 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Data Source Settings:

      • Go to the Data Source in the SAP BW system and verify its settings. Ensure that it is correctly set up for delta extraction.
    2. Reinitialize the Data Source:

      • If the data source has been changed to a non-delta mode, you may need to reinitialize it. This involves:
        • Deleting the existing delta queue.
        • Performing a full load (initial load) to reset the data source.
        • After the initial load, you can switch back to delta mode.
    3. Check for Changes in Source System:

      • Investigate if there have been any changes in the source system that could affect the data source configuration. Ensure that the data source is still compatible with delta extraction.
    4. Update InfoPackage:

      • If you are using an InfoPackage for data extraction, check its settings. Make sure it is configured to use delta extraction and that it is not set to "full" or "initial" inadvertently.
    5. Consult SAP Notes:

      • Look for relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error. SAP frequently updates its knowledge base with solutions for common issues.
    6. Check for System Updates:

      • Ensure that your SAP system is up to date with the latest patches and updates, as some issues may be resolved in newer versions.

    Related Information:

    • SAP BW Documentation: Review the official SAP BW documentation for detailed information on data extraction processes and error handling.
