The SAP error message M7135 "Number range requirement different" typically occurs when there is a mismatch between the number range assigned to a document type and the number range that is currently being used or requested. This can happen in various modules, such as Materials Management (MM) or Sales and Distribution (SD), when creating or processing documents like purchase orders, sales orders, or material documents.

    Cause:

    1. Number Range Configuration: The number range for the document type you are trying to use is not correctly configured or does not match the expected number range.
    2. Document Type Assignment: The document type being used may not be assigned to the correct number range in the configuration settings.
    3. Custom Development: If there are custom developments or enhancements, they may be incorrectly referencing number ranges.
    4. Transport Issues: If the configuration was transported from one system to another (e.g., from development to production), there may be inconsistencies in number range settings.

    Solution:

    1. Check Number Range Configuration:

      • Go to the transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
      • Find the relevant number range object for the document type you are working with.
      • Verify that the number range is correctly defined and that it is active.
    2. Verify Document Type Assignment:

      • Use transaction code OMH1 (for MM) or OVAK (for SD) to check the assignment of document types to number ranges.
      • Ensure that the document type you are using is assigned to the correct number range.
    3. Adjust Number Range:

      • If necessary, adjust the number range settings to ensure they align with the document type requirements.
      • You may need to create a new number range or modify an existing one.
    4. Check for Custom Code:

      • If there are any custom programs or enhancements, review the code to ensure that it is correctly handling number ranges.
    5. Transport Consistency:

      • If the issue arose after a transport, check the transport logs and ensure that all necessary configurations were transported correctly.
    6. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or notes related to number range management for additional insights.
