What causes this issue?

The material has the
<DS:GLOS.procurement_type>procurement type</> <LS>External procurement
</>. You want to create a production version for the material master
record, although production versions are normally useful only for
in-house production. You can create a production version if you want a
Bill of Material (BOM) or if you want the routing to be considered by
MRP. You can define the production version in the
<DS:GLOS.purchasing_info_record>purchasing info record</> , if you use
subcontracting purchasing info records to define the supplier. In all
other cases, the system selects the material's production versions also
for subcontracting.

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
