What causes this issue?

You can only assign layout module variants to local assortments in
individual plants and not to general assortments if you are using
multiple assignment of assortments to plants. When you assign a layout
module variant to a general assortment all the plants to which that
assortment has been assigned are affected by the change.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
