  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You made an entry for a characteristic which is compounded with
another. This means that this characteristic is always interpreted in
connection with the value of one or more other characteristics.
This is visible in the list of possible entries under F4 where several
columns of characteristics are displayed. The characteristic value you
entered may not be displayed as you entered it, but in combination with
the characteristic values which you chose for other characteristics.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

This may have been caused by one of the two following situations:
    RESET N1
The characteristic value you entered exists, but not in combination
with the value or values which you specified for the superior
characteristic(s). Change this or the other characteristic values
    accordingly.
The characteristic value you entered might not exist. If you actually
wanted to enter another characteristic value, correct the entry. If you
wish to use characteristic value &V2&, you must maintain it in the
    master data.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KY041 - No characteristic value &2 exists for characteristic &1 due to compound ?

The SAP error message KY041 indicates that there is an issue with the characteristic values in a characteristic hierarchy, specifically when dealing with compound characteristics in the context of Profitability Analysis (CO-PA). Here’s a breakdown of the cause, potential solutions, and related information:

    Cause:

    1. Missing Characteristic Value: The error occurs when a characteristic value that is expected to be present in the system does not exist. This can happen if:

      • The characteristic value has not been defined in the system.
      • The characteristic value is not assigned to the relevant characteristic hierarchy.
      • There is a mismatch in the data being processed, such as incorrect or incomplete data entries.
    2. Compound Characteristics: The error specifically mentions "due to compound," which indicates that the issue is related to compound characteristics. Compound characteristics are those that are made up of multiple individual characteristics. If one of the individual characteristics is missing or incorrectly defined, it can lead to this error.

    Solution:

    1. Check Characteristic Definitions:

      • Go to the transaction code CT04 (Create Characteristic) or CT05 (Change Characteristic) to verify that the characteristic &1 is correctly defined.
      • Ensure that the characteristic value &2 is defined for the characteristic.
    2. Review Characteristic Hierarchies:

      • Use transaction code CT06 to check the characteristic hierarchy and ensure that the characteristic value is included in the hierarchy.
      • If the characteristic is part of a compound characteristic, ensure that all individual characteristics are correctly defined and assigned.
    3. Data Consistency:

      • Check the data being uploaded or processed to ensure that it includes all necessary characteristic values.
      • If you are using a data upload tool (like LSMW or BAPIs), ensure that the data source contains the correct values.
    4. Recreate Missing Values:

      • If the characteristic value is genuinely missing, you may need to create it in the system. This can be done through the appropriate transaction for maintaining characteristic values.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or notes related to the specific version of SAP you are using, as there may be specific patches or updates that address this issue.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • CT04: Create Characteristic
      • CT05: Change Characteristic
