Message class: KQ - Error Messages for Customizing Product Costing
Message number: 708
Message text: Object type & (client &) has more than one variance version
Object type &v1& in client &v2& has more than one variance version.
The tables for variance calculation cannot be converted.
Since the inconsistency only affects the functions "Variance
calculation for orders" and "Variance calculation for cost object
hierarchies" in product cost accounting, production operation of your
system can still be started immediately.
If you do not use the above variance calculation functions, you can
ignore this error.
Variance calculation for orders and cost object hierarchies will not
function until the inconsistency is removed. If version 000, which is
relevant for settlement, is affected by the inconsistency, you also
cannot settle variances for orders and cost object hierarchies until
the inconsistency is removed.
To correct this error, proceed as follows:
Run report RKTKV30A and print out the list that is generated.

KQ708
- Object type & (client &) has more than one variance version ?The SAP error message KQ708 indicates that there is an issue with the object type specified in the error message, which has more than one variance version in the specified client. This typically occurs in the context of controlling (CO) or profitability analysis (CO-PA) when dealing with variance reports or planning versions.
Cause:
The error arises when the system finds multiple versions of a variance for the same object type in the specified client. This can happen due to:
- Multiple Variants: There are multiple variance versions defined for the same object type, which confuses the system when it tries to process or display the data.
- Configuration Issues: Incorrect configuration settings in the controlling area or planning versions.
- Data Inconsistencies: Data inconsistencies or corruption in the database that lead to multiple entries for the same object.
Solution:
To resolve the KQ708 error, you can follow these steps:
Check Variance Versions:
- Go to the relevant transaction (e.g., KSV1 for variance versions) and check the existing variance versions for the object type in question.
- Identify if there are indeed multiple versions defined for the same object type.
Delete or Adjust Variants:
- If you find multiple variants that are not needed, consider deleting or adjusting them to ensure that only one valid version exists for the object type.
- Ensure that the remaining version is correctly configured and meets your reporting or planning needs.
Review Configuration:
- Check the configuration settings in the controlling area or the relevant settings in the CO-PA module to ensure that they are set up correctly.
- Make sure that the settings do not allow for multiple versions unless that is the intended design.
Data Consistency Check:
- Run data consistency checks to ensure that there are no underlying issues with the database that could be causing this error.
- Use transaction codes like SE11 or SE16 to inspect the relevant tables for inconsistencies.
Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific object type and variance versions for additional guidance.
Contact SAP Support:
- If the issue persists after trying the above steps, consider reaching out to SAP support for further assistance. They may provide specific notes or patches that address this issue.
