  • Message number: 025

  • Message text: Cannot migrate generic article &1 due to multiple characteristic values

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The migration checks have detected a variant that has a characteristic
with more than one characteristic value that is defined as a default
    value.
Only single-value characteristics are relevant for variants because a
variant must always have a unique value.
These characteristic values were not created with the <LS>Edit
Characteristic Values</> transaction, which does not allow multiple
values to be created for a variant.

The system cannot migrate the respective generic article or its
    variants.

    How to fix this error?

Make sure that the variants you want to migrate only have single-value
characteristics. To do this, use report <NP>R_CORR_GEN_ART_DEF_VAL</>.
After you have corrected the data, restart the migration process for the
    generic article.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KMAT_MIGR025 - Cannot migrate generic article &1 due to multiple characteristic values ?

The SAP error message KMAT_MIGR025 indicates that there is an issue with migrating a generic article (often a configurable material) due to the presence of multiple characteristic values. This typically occurs during the migration of configurable materials (KMAT) in SAP, particularly when moving data from one system to another or during system upgrades.

    Cause:

The error arises when the system encounters a generic article that has multiple characteristic values assigned to it, which cannot be processed correctly during the migration. This situation can occur due to:

    1. Inconsistent Data: The article may have been defined with multiple values for a single characteristic, which is not allowed in the context of migration.
    2. Configuration Issues: The configuration of the article may not align with the expected structure for migration, leading to conflicts.

    1. Review Characteristic Values:

      • Check the configuration of the generic article in the SAP system.
      • Ensure that each characteristic has a single value assigned. If there are multiple values, you may need to consolidate them or redefine the article.
    2. Data Cleanup:

      • If you find articles with multiple characteristic values, you may need to clean up the data. This could involve:
        • Removing or merging duplicate characteristic values.
        • Redefining the article to ensure it adheres to the expected structure.
    3. Use Migration Tools:

      • If you are using SAP's migration tools (like the Migration Cockpit), ensure that you are following the correct procedures and that your data is formatted according to the requirements of the tool.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation related to the migration of configurable materials. There may be specific guidelines or prerequisites that need to be followed.
    5. Testing:

      • After making changes, perform a test migration with a small subset of data to ensure that the issue is resolved before attempting a full migration.
    6. Seek Support:

      • If the issue persists, consider reaching out to SAP support or consulting with an SAP expert who can provide guidance based on your specific system configuration and version.
