  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message IR715 - Insufficient meas. docs available for measuring point &1 in long periods ?

The SAP error message IR715 indicates that there are insufficient measurement documents available for a specific measuring point over a long period. This error typically arises in the context of SAP's Plant Maintenance (PM) or Controlling (CO) modules, particularly when dealing with measuring points and measurement documents.

    Cause:

    1. Lack of Measurement Documents: The primary cause of this error is that there are not enough measurement documents recorded for the specified measuring point within the defined time frame. This can happen if measurements have not been recorded or if they have been deleted.

    2. Incorrect Configuration: The measuring point may not be properly configured, or the settings for the measurement documents may not align with the requirements for the reporting or analysis being performed.

    3. Data Archiving: If data archiving has been performed, older measurement documents may have been removed from the database, leading to insufficient data for the specified period.

    4. Time Frame Issues: The time frame specified in the report or transaction may be too long, and there may not be any measurement documents for that entire period.

    Solution:

    1. Check Measurement Documents: Verify that measurement documents exist for the specified measuring point. You can do this by navigating to the relevant transaction (e.g., transaction code IK17 for measuring documents) and checking the entries.

    2. Adjust Time Frame: If the time frame is too long, consider narrowing it down to a shorter period where you know there are measurement documents available.

    3. Create Missing Measurement Documents: If there are genuinely no measurement documents for the required period, you may need to create them manually, ensuring that they are recorded correctly.

    4. Review Configuration: Check the configuration of the measuring point to ensure it is set up correctly. This includes verifying the measurement type, units of measure, and any related settings.

    5. Consult with IT or SAP Support: If the issue persists, it may be beneficial to consult with your IT department or SAP support team to investigate further, especially if there are concerns about data integrity or system configuration.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as IK17 (Display Measurement Documents), IK18 (Display Measurement Document List), and IK01 (Create Measuring Point).
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation related to measuring points and measurement documents for best practices and configuration guidelines.
    • User Exits and BAdIs: If custom logic is involved, check for any user exits or Business Add-Ins (BAdIs) that might affect how measurement documents are processed.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the IR715 error and implement a solution to resolve it.
