  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message IO011 - CAUTION: The last number in number range & has been assigned ?

The SAP error message IO011, which states "CAUTION: The last number in number range & has been assigned," typically occurs when you are trying to create a new document (such as an internal order, project, etc.) and the number range for that document type has reached its limit. This means that the last number in the defined number range has been assigned, and there are no more available numbers to assign to new documents.

    Cause:

    1. Exhausted Number Range: The number range defined for the specific document type has been fully utilized.
    2. Configuration Issues: The number range may not have been properly configured to allow for sufficient numbers.
    3. Incorrect Number Range Assignment: The document type may be incorrectly assigned to a number range that is too small.

    Solution:

To resolve this issue, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Number Range Configuration:

      • Go to transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
      • Enter the relevant number range object (e.g., for internal orders, it might be CO_ORDER).
      • Check the current number range intervals and see if the last number has indeed been assigned.
    2. Extend the Number Range:

      • If the number range is exhausted, you can extend it by adding a new interval.
      • In the same SNRO transaction, you can create a new interval with a higher upper limit.
    3. Adjust Number Range Assignment:

      • Ensure that the document type is assigned to the correct number range that has sufficient capacity.
      • You can check this in the configuration settings for the specific document type (e.g., internal orders) using transaction code OKA0.
    4. Monitor Usage:

      • Regularly monitor the usage of number ranges to prevent this issue from occurring in the future.
      • Set up alerts or reports to notify you when the number range is nearing its limit.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or consult with your SAP Basis or functional team for best practices on managing number ranges.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • SNRO: Number Range Objects
      • OKA0: Internal Order Types

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may provide additional guidance or fixes related to number range management.
