Message text: Number of gateway work processes; only for SNA
This MTE node gives information about which gateway work processes
exist.
If a value is near 100%, the maximum number of clients can be changed
using the profile parameter <ZH>gw/max_wp</> (see the parameter
documentation in RZ11).
To administrate gateway connections, call transaction SMGW on the
server in question.

GW906
- Number of gateway work processes; only for SNA ?The SAP error message GW906 indicates an issue related to the number of gateway work processes configured for SNA (Systems Network Architecture) communication. This error typically arises when the number of gateway work processes is insufficient to handle the incoming requests or when there is a misconfiguration in the SAP system.
Cause:
- Insufficient Gateway Work Processes: The number of gateway work processes configured in the SAP system is lower than what is required to handle the current load.
- Configuration Issues: There may be incorrect settings in the SAP profile parameters related to the gateway.
- High Load: A sudden increase in the number of requests or connections can lead to this error if the system is not adequately provisioned.
- Network Issues: Problems in the network can also lead to delays and timeouts, causing the gateway to become overwhelmed.
Solution:
Increase Gateway Work Processes:
- You can increase the number of gateway work processes in the SAP system profile. This is done by modifying the
gw_count
parameter in the instance profile.- Example: If the current setting is
gw_count = 2
, you might increase it togw_count = 4
or higher, depending on your system's capacity and requirements.Check System Load:
- Monitor the system load and performance metrics to determine if the current configuration is adequate.
- Use transaction codes like
SM50
orSM66
to check the status of work processes.Review Configuration:
- Ensure that the SNA configuration is correctly set up in the SAP system.
- Check for any other parameters that might affect the gateway processes, such as
gw/enable_sna
.Restart the Gateway:
- After making changes to the configuration, restart the SAP instance to apply the new settings.
Network Optimization:
- Investigate any potential network issues that could be causing delays or increased load on the gateway.
Related Information:
By addressing the configuration and ensuring that the system is adequately provisioned for the expected load, you can resolve the GW906 error and improve the overall performance of the SAP system.
