  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message G00102 - Original list cannot be displayed in update mode: cons units are locked ?

The SAP error message G00102 indicates that the original list cannot be displayed in update mode because the corresponding "cons units" (consumption units) are locked. This typically occurs in the context of inventory management or logistics when trying to access or modify data that is currently being processed or is locked by another transaction.

    Cause:

    1. Locked Data: The most common cause of this error is that the data you are trying to access is currently locked by another user or process. This can happen if another transaction is updating the same data or if a previous transaction did not release the lock properly.
    2. Long-running Transactions: If a transaction takes too long to complete, it may hold locks on the data longer than expected, causing other users to encounter this error.
    3. Batch Jobs: Background jobs or batch processes that are running and accessing the same data can also lead to this error.

    Solution:

    1. Check for Locks: Use transaction code SM12 to check for any existing locks on the data. You can see which user or process is holding the lock and take appropriate action.

      • If you find a lock that is no longer needed, you can delete it (if you have the necessary authorizations).
    2. Wait and Retry: If the lock is held by another user or process that is still active, you may need to wait until that process completes. After waiting, try to access the data again.

    3. Review Long-running Processes: If you frequently encounter this issue, review any long-running transactions or batch jobs that may be causing locks. Optimizing these processes can help reduce the occurrence of this error.

    4. Consult with Basis Team: If you are unable to resolve the issue, it may be helpful to consult with your SAP Basis team. They can provide insights into system performance and help identify any underlying issues.

    5. User Communication: If the lock is held by another user, it may be beneficial to communicate with that user to understand what they are doing and if they can release the lock.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as:

      • SM12: To view and manage locks.
      • SM21: To check system logs for any related issues.
      • ST22: To check for dumps that may provide additional context.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation or notes related to locking mechanisms in SAP to understand how locks are managed and how to troubleshoot related issues.

    • User Training: Ensure that users are trained on how to properly complete transactions to minimize the risk of leaving locks in place.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the G00102 error and prevent it from occurring in the future.
