  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message FMEF_WD005 - Layout setting is incompatible with item data, default layout is applied ?

The SAP error message FMEF_WD005 indicates that there is an incompatibility between the layout settings and the item data in a specific transaction or report. This typically occurs in the context of SAP applications that utilize layouts for displaying data, such as SAP Fiori or SAP GUI transactions.

    Cause:

    1. Incompatible Layout Settings: The layout settings that have been defined for the report or transaction do not match the structure or fields of the item data being processed. This can happen if:

      • The layout was customized or modified, and the changes do not align with the current data structure.
      • The data being processed has changed (e.g., new fields added, fields removed) but the layout has not been updated accordingly.
      • The user is trying to use a layout that is not applicable to the current context or data set.
    2. User-Specific Layout Issues: If a user has a specific layout saved that is incompatible with the current data, the system may revert to the default layout.

    Solution:

    1. Reset Layout:

      • Go to the layout settings in the transaction or report where the error occurs.
      • Reset the layout to the default settings. This can often be done by selecting the option to reset or delete the user-specific layout.
    2. Check Layout Configuration:

      • Review the layout configuration to ensure that it matches the current data structure. This may involve checking field selections, column arrangements, and other layout settings.
      • If you have access to the backend, you can check the layout settings in the relevant customizing transaction (e.g., using transaction SE80 or SE11).
    3. Create a New Layout:

      • If the existing layout is not compatible, consider creating a new layout that aligns with the current data structure. This can be done through the layout management options in the application.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review any relevant SAP documentation or notes that may provide insights into layout compatibility issues for the specific transaction or report you are working with.
    5. User Training:

      • Ensure that users are trained on how to manage layouts effectively, including how to reset or create new layouts as needed.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to layout settings and the specific transaction you are using.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with transaction codes related to layout management, such as ALV (ABAP List Viewer) settings if applicable.
    • User Roles and Authorizations: Ensure that users have the necessary authorizations to modify layouts, as restrictions may lead to issues when trying to apply custom layouts.
