Message text: Versioned catalogs can lead to high storage requirements
You have defined that the current catalog object shall be versioned.
Since catalogs are used exclusively for administrative purposes inside
of BRFplus and do not influence the business logic, it is normally not
useful to create different versions of a catalog.
In addition, catalogs are usually subject to frequent changes. As a
consequence, versioning a catalog typically leads to a high number of
versioned objects. This can result in an unnecessary high database load.
Note that catalog versioning is not an error. However, because of the
reasons mentioned above, SAP recommends not to put catalogs under
version control.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Consider if there are important reasons to store different versions of
the catalog. If not, set versioning off.

- Versioned catalogs can lead to high storage requirements ?The SAP error message FDT_CORE746 indicates that the use of versioned catalogs in your SAP system can lead to high storage requirements. This message is typically associated with the SAP Fiori Design Time (FDT) and is related to the management of catalogs and their versions.
Cause:
- Versioned Catalogs: When you create versioned catalogs, each version of the catalog is stored separately. This can lead to an increase in storage requirements, especially if there are many versions of catalogs being created and maintained.
- High Volume of Data: If your organization frequently updates or modifies catalogs, the accumulation of multiple versions can consume significant storage space.
- Inefficient Management: Lack of proper management and cleanup of old or unused versions can exacerbate the storage issue.
Solution:
- Review Catalog Usage: Analyze the usage of versioned catalogs in your system. Determine if all versions are necessary or if some can be consolidated or deleted.
- Implement Cleanup Procedures: Establish a regular maintenance schedule to review and delete outdated or unused catalog versions. This can help in managing storage requirements effectively.
- Limit Versioning: If possible, limit the use of versioned catalogs. Consider using non-versioned catalogs where appropriate to reduce storage needs.
- Optimize Catalog Design: Reassess the design of your catalogs. Simplifying the structure or reducing the number of versions can help mitigate storage issues.
- Monitor Storage Usage: Use SAP tools to monitor storage usage related to catalogs and take proactive measures when storage thresholds are approached.
