Message class: ESH_OM_OBJ_MODEL_RP2 - Object Model Repository (2)
Message number: 171
Message text: Node &3 of object type &2 cannot be deleted as user &1 locks associations
When a node is deleted, all associations that use the node are deleted
too. This is only possible if you have locked all those associations
when starting to edit a template or starting an import. This is not the
case for node &v3& of object type &v2& because user &v1& locked some
associations at this moment.
The node cannot be deleted.
Ask user &v1& to unlock the associations.
If you edit a template in the template modeler, save your work and leave
the object type you are editing<(>,<)> then edit the object type again.
Then it will be possible to delete the node.
If you are importing an object type<(>,<)> the import is cancelled. Try
to import the object type again.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

ESH_OM_OBJ_MODEL_RP2171
- Node &3 of object type &2 cannot be deleted as user &1 locks associations ?The SAP error message ESH_OM_OBJ_MODEL_RP2171 indicates that a specific node of an object type cannot be deleted because it is locked by a user due to existing associations. This typically occurs in the context of the SAP Enterprise Search or the SAP Business Object Model, where certain objects may have dependencies or relationships that prevent their deletion.
Cause:
- User Lock: The user identified in the error message has locked associations related to the node you are trying to delete. This means that there are references or links to other objects that are preventing the deletion.
- Active Associations: The node you are attempting to delete has active associations with other nodes or objects, which must be resolved before deletion can occur.
- Transaction Context: The error may also arise if the deletion is attempted in a transaction context where the object is still being used or referenced.
Solution:
- Identify the Locking User: Check who the user is that is locking the associations. You may need to communicate with that user to understand why the lock is in place.
- Release the Lock: If the user is no longer working with the associations, they can release the lock. This can often be done by logging out or explicitly releasing the lock through the SAP GUI.
- Remove Associations: If you have the necessary permissions, you can manually remove the associations that are preventing the deletion. This may involve navigating to the relevant object and deleting or modifying the associations.
- Check for Active Sessions: Ensure that there are no active sessions or transactions that are using the object. You can use transaction codes like SM12 (to check for locks) and SM21 (to check system logs) to gather more information.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or support for specific instructions related to the object type you are working with, as the steps may vary based on the context.
