  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message ESH_ADM_MSG335 - Task list '&1' is running ?

The SAP error message ESH_ADM_MSG335 indicates that a task list (identified by &1) is currently running. This message typically arises in the context of the SAP Enterprise Search (ESH) administration, where certain tasks or processes are executed in the background.

    Cause:

The error occurs when you attempt to start a new task or perform an operation that conflicts with an already running task list. This can happen if:

    • A previous execution of the task list is still in progress.
    • There is a long-running process that has not yet completed.
    • There may be a lock on the task list due to concurrent executions.

    Solution:

To resolve this issue, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Running Tasks:

      • Go to transaction code SM37 (Job Monitoring) to check for any jobs related to the task list that are currently running. Look for jobs with the status "Active" or "Released."
    2. Wait for Completion:

      • If you find that the task list is still running, you may need to wait for it to complete. Monitor the job status until it finishes.
    3. Cancel the Running Task:

      • If the task is taking too long and you need to stop it, you can cancel the job from SM37. Select the job and choose the option to cancel it. Be cautious with this step, as it may lead to incomplete processing.
    4. Check for Locks:

      • If the task list is not visible in SM37, check for any locks that might be preventing the task from completing. You can use transaction SM12 to view and manage locks.
    5. Review Logs:

      • Check the logs for the task list execution to identify any issues that may have caused it to hang or take longer than expected. You can find logs in transaction SLG1 (Application Log).
    6. Restart the Task List:

      • Once the previous task has completed or been canceled, you can attempt to restart the task list.
