  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

Data could not be locked exclusively. These locks are required to make
sure the database is consistent when data are modified.
The locks could not be set for one of the following reasons:
The data is currently locked by another user.
The data is referenced and can only be modified in the referenced
    specification.
The data is inherited and can only be modified in the source
    specification.
The selected specification is of a specification type (for example,
puresubstance) that cannot be changed in this case.

    System Response

    The system displays the data.

    How to fix this error?

If you need to change the data, make the changes once the data is no
    longer locked by another user.
If the data is being referenced or was inherited, change the data
directly in the referenced specification or the source specification
    that is inherited.
<ZK>Note:</> These changes affect all other specifications that
reference the modified one, or that inherit data from the modified
specification. To prevent your changes from affecting all other
specifications, you can overwrite the referenced or inherited data
without changing the source specification in specification maintenance.
For inheritance, you must also configure the inheritance template to
allow inherited data to be overwritten.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message EHPRC_CPM_MANAGER042 - Cannot lock data or wrong specification type; data can only be displayed ?

The SAP error message EHPRC_CPM_MANAGER042 indicates that the system is unable to lock the data for editing, which means that the data can only be displayed and not modified. This error typically arises in the context of the SAP EH&S (Environment, Health, and Safety) module, particularly when dealing with product safety data or similar data management tasks.

    Causes:

    1. Data Locking: The data you are trying to edit is currently locked by another user or process. This can happen if another user is editing the same data or if a background job is processing it.
    2. Incorrect Specification Type: The specification type you are trying to access may not be editable. For example, certain types of specifications may be set to read-only based on their status or configuration.
    3. Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to edit the data, leading to a situation where the data can only be displayed.
    4. System Configuration: There may be specific configurations in the system that prevent editing of certain data types or in certain scenarios.

    Solutions:

    1. Check for Locks: Use transaction code SM12 to check for any locks on the data. If you find that another user has locked the data, you may need to wait until they release the lock or contact them to coordinate.
    2. Verify Specification Type: Ensure that the specification type you are trying to edit is indeed meant to be editable. Check the configuration settings for the specification type in the system.
    3. Review Authorizations: Ensure that your user account has the necessary authorizations to edit the data. You may need to contact your SAP security team to verify and adjust your permissions if necessary.
    4. Consult Documentation: Review the SAP documentation or help resources related to the EH&S module to understand the specific conditions under which data can be locked or made read-only.
    5. System Configuration Check: If you have access, check the configuration settings in the EH&S module to see if there are any restrictions on editing certain types of data.
