  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: EC - Development environment: Menu Painter

  • Message number: 090

  • Message text: & already exists, but does not fit. A new menu will be created

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

None of the menus with the same name can be inserted here because they
either lead to recursive menu definitions or result in an excessive
nesting depth. Therefore, a new menu is created. (When calculating the
nesting depth, all uses of a menu are taken into account.)

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

If you want to see how the nesting depth is calculated, you can proceed
    as follows:
Place the cursor on the menu to be changed and generate a where-used
list (select <LS>Utilities -> Where-used list</>). The first figure for
the nesting depth is derived from the greatest number of intermediate
levels from the menu to a menu bar. The second comes from the longest
field in the menu to be inserted.
From the menu bar to the deepest located function can be no more than 4
    levels.

    Cause:

    1. Menu Conflict: The error indicates that there is an attempt to create a menu item that already exists in the system, but the existing item does not match the criteria or structure required for the new menu item.
    2. Inconsistent Menu Structure: The existing menu item may have attributes (like transaction codes, roles, or authorizations) that do not align with the new menu item being created.
    3. Customizations: If there are custom menus or modifications in place, they may conflict with standard SAP menu items.

    Solution:

    1. Check Existing Menu Items: Review the existing menu items to see if the item you are trying to create already exists. You can do this by navigating through the SAP menu or using transaction codes like SE43 (for menu maintenance).
    2. Modify Existing Menu: If the existing menu item is not suitable, consider modifying it to fit your requirements instead of creating a new one.
    3. Use Unique Identifiers: Ensure that the new menu item has a unique identifier or name that does not conflict with existing items.
    4. Review Authorizations: Check if there are any authorization issues that might be causing the conflict. Ensure that the user has the necessary permissions to create or modify menu items.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for guidance on menu management and structure.
    6. SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might address this specific error or provide additional context.
