SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: EAM_MTPLNGBKT - Maintenence Planning Bucket

  • Message number: 000

  • Message text: Composite label exceeds maximum length of 40 characters and is shortened

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You created a planning bucket and assigned a label to it. Moreover, you
defined this planning bucket as a recurrent planning bucket. In this
case, the system generates several buckets with composite labels. The
composite labels consist of the unique label text that you entered and a
time specification. If you specify a weekly recurrence, the week and the
year are added to the unique label (<NP>ww_yyyy</>). If you specify a
daily bucket, the day, month and year are added to the label (
    <NP>yyyymmdd</>).

    System Response

Since the system adds a time specification of seven or eight characters
to the labels of recurrent planning buckets, these composite labels may
exceed the maximum length of 40 characters and are therefore shortened
    by the system.

    How to fix this error?

If you plan recurrent planning buckets, restrict the entry of your
labels to a length of 32 characters.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message EAM_MTPLNGBKT000 - Composite label exceeds maximum length of 40 characters and is shortened ?

The SAP error message EAM_MTPLNGBKT000 indicates that a composite label exceeds the maximum allowed length of 40 characters. This error typically occurs in the context of SAP Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) when dealing with maintenance plans, task lists, or similar objects that require labeling.

    Cause:

The error is triggered when the system attempts to create or display a composite label that combines multiple elements (like maintenance plan name, task list, etc.) into a single label that exceeds the 40-character limit. This can happen if:

    • The individual components of the label (like descriptions or names) are too long.
    • The concatenation of these components results in a string longer than 40 characters.

    Solution:

To resolve this issue, you can take the following steps:

    1. Review Label Components: Check the individual components that make up the composite label. Identify which parts are contributing to the length exceeding 40 characters.

    2. Shorten Descriptions: If possible, shorten the names or descriptions of the components involved in the composite label. This may involve:

      • Using abbreviations.
      • Removing unnecessary words or characters.
      • Simplifying the naming conventions.
    3. Adjust Configuration: If the composite label is generated based on configuration settings, review those settings to see if there are options to limit the length of the components being concatenated.

    4. Test Changes: After making adjustments, test the changes in a development or test environment to ensure that the error no longer occurs and that the labels are still meaningful.

    5. Documentation: Document any changes made for future reference and to inform other users or developers about the adjustments to naming conventions.
