- Disk space usage of the file system in which the log archive is located ?The SAP error message DB6705 indicates that the disk space usage of the file system where the log archive is located has reached a critical level. This can lead to issues with database operations, as the system may not be able to write new log files or perform necessary operations due to insufficient disk space.
Cause:
- Insufficient Disk Space: The primary cause of this error is that the disk space allocated for the log archive directory is full or nearly full.
- Log File Accumulation: Over time, log files can accumulate if they are not being archived or deleted as part of regular maintenance.
- Configuration Issues: Incorrect configuration of log file retention policies or archiving processes can lead to excessive log file storage.
Solution:
Free Up Disk Space:
- Delete Old Log Files: Identify and delete old or unnecessary log files from the log archive directory. Ensure that you do not delete files that are still needed for recovery or auditing purposes.
- Move Log Files: If possible, move some log files to another storage location to free up space.
- Compress Log Files: Consider compressing older log files to save space.
Increase Disk Space:
- Add More Storage: If the disk is consistently running out of space, consider adding more disk space to the file system where the log archive is located.
- Resize Partitions: If applicable, resize the partitions to allocate more space to the log archive directory.
Review Archiving Strategy:
- Implement Regular Archiving: Set up a regular archiving process to move old log files to a different location or to delete them after a certain retention period.
- Adjust Retention Policies: Review and adjust the retention policies for log files to ensure that they do not accumulate excessively.
Monitor Disk Usage:
- Set Up Alerts: Implement monitoring tools to alert you when disk usage reaches a certain threshold, allowing you to take action before it becomes critical.
- Regular Maintenance: Schedule regular maintenance tasks to check disk usage and clean up unnecessary files.
