  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CURTO1042 - PDS for material &1, plant &2, version &3 could not be deleted ?

The SAP error message CURTO1042 indicates that a Production Data Structure (PDS) for a specific material, plant, and version could not be deleted. This error typically arises in the context of SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) or SAP S/4HANA environments where PDS is used for planning purposes.

    Causes:

    1. Dependencies: The PDS may be linked to existing planning data, such as planned orders, production orders, or other dependent objects that prevent its deletion.
    2. Active Usage: The PDS might be actively used in the planning run or other processes, making it unavailable for deletion.
    3. Authorization Issues: The user attempting to delete the PDS may not have the necessary authorizations to perform this action.
    4. System Lock: There could be a system lock on the PDS due to ongoing processes or transactions that are using it.
    5. Data Integrity Constraints: There may be data integrity constraints in place that prevent the deletion of the PDS.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Dependencies: Review any dependent objects (like orders or planning data) that might be using the PDS. You may need to delete or modify these objects before attempting to delete the PDS.
    2. Release Locks: Ensure that there are no active locks on the PDS. You can check for locks using transaction code SM12 and release any locks if necessary.
    3. User Authorizations: Verify that the user has the appropriate authorizations to delete the PDS. If not, consult with your SAP security team to obtain the necessary permissions.
    4. Check Active Usage: Ensure that the PDS is not currently being used in any planning runs or processes. If it is, you may need to wait until those processes are completed.
    5. Use Transaction Code: You can use transaction code /SAPAPO/PDS to manage PDS entries and check their status.
    6. Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or notes related to PDS management for any specific guidelines or troubleshooting steps.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as /SAPAPO/PDS, CIF, and MD04 for monitoring and managing PDS and related objects.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any SAP Notes that may address known issues or provide additional guidance on handling PDS-related errors.
    • System Logs: Review system logs for any additional error messages or warnings that may provide more context about the failure to delete the PDS.
