CU704
- Material & is not defined for variant configuration ?The SAP error message CU704 ("Material & is not defined for variant configuration") typically occurs when you are trying to use a material in a variant configuration scenario, but the material is not set up correctly for variant configuration in the system. Here’s a breakdown of the cause, potential solutions, and related information:
Cause:
Material Master Configuration: The material in question is not marked as a configurable material in the material master data. This means that the system does not recognize it as a material that can have variants based on characteristics.
Missing Configuration Profile: The material may not have an associated configuration profile, which is necessary for defining the characteristics and dependencies for the variant configuration.
Incorrect Material Type: The material type assigned to the material may not support variant configuration. Only certain material types (like FERT for finished goods) are typically used for variant configuration.
Missing Characteristics: The characteristics that are supposed to define the variants may not be defined or linked to the material.
Solution:
Check Material Master:
- Go to the material master (transaction code MM02) and check if the material is marked as a configurable material. This is done in the Basic Data 1 view by checking the "Configurable Material" checkbox.
Assign Configuration Profile:
- Ensure that a configuration profile is assigned to the material. You can do this in the configuration profile (transaction code CU41) and link it to the material.
Review Material Type:
- Verify that the material type is appropriate for variant configuration. If necessary, you may need to create a new material with the correct type.
Define Characteristics:
- Make sure that the characteristics that define the variants are created and assigned to the configuration profile. You can check this in the characteristics management (transaction code CT04).
Check Dependencies:
- If there are dependencies defined for the configuration, ensure they are correctly set up and linked to the material.
Related Information:
Transaction Codes:
Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed steps on setting up variant configuration and managing materials.
SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might address specific issues or bugs related to variant configuration.
Testing: After making the necessary changes, test the configuration by attempting to create a sales order or production order for the material to ensure that the error is resolved.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the CU704 error and successfully configure your material for variant configuration in SAP.
