Message number: 018
Message text: RFC connections are missing
To enable communication of the CTS server with its managed systems, you
must configure RFC connections to the managed systems. For non-ABAP
systems, this means configuring RFC connections to the ABAP
communication system of the selected non-ABAP system.
In general, the following RFC connections must be configured.
<ZH>Transport Organizer Destination</>: Required for working with
transport requests (creating, deleting, or changing transport requests).
This destination is required for source systems only.
<ZH>Import Destination</>: Required for performing imports of CTS
plug-ins
<ZH>Deploy Destination</>: The import process of a transport collection
needs this destination to be able to import transport requests that are
assigned to a transport collection.
<ZH>Note</>: The Transport Organizer and import destinations are reused
from existing SAP Solution Manager destinations, if you are using Change
Request Management or Quality Gate Management (QGM). These destinations
are created when performing "Managed Systems Configuration" in SAP
Solution Manager Configuration (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP). You only need
to configure the Deploy destination. For the other destinations, check
in the SAP Solution Manager configuration that they are correct.
The system displays that RFC connections are missing.
<ZH>Note</>: The system only checks for the existence of the RFC
connections. It does not check that the RFC connections have been
configured correctly.
If you are using Change Request Management or QGM on top of central CTS,
check that the RFC connections which were configured for Change Request
Management or QGM are correct. If necessary, correct them. Afterwards,
validate the system again. If the deploy destination is missing, you
need to create it.
If you are not yet in the "Status Details" view, display it by choosing
"See details" in the "Status" column for the selected system.
Create the required RFC connections as indicated in the specific
messages.

- RFC connections are missing ?The SAP error message
CTS_CONFIG_MSG_CL018
indicates that there are missing RFC (Remote Function Call) connections in the Change and Transport System (CTS) configuration. This error typically arises when the system is unable to find the necessary RFC connections to transport requests between systems, which is crucial for the transport management process in SAP.Cause:
- Missing RFC Connections: The required RFC connections for the transport landscape (e.g., between Development, Quality Assurance, and Production systems) are not defined or are incorrectly configured.
- Incorrect Configuration: The RFC connections may exist but are not properly configured, leading to communication issues.
- Transport Domain Issues: The system may not be part of a transport domain, or the transport domain configuration may be incomplete.
- Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to access the RFC connections.
Solution:
Check RFC Connections:
- Go to transaction
SM59
in the SAP GUI.- Verify that the required RFC connections (e.g.,
TMS
connections) are defined and active.- Test the connections to ensure they are working properly.
Configure Transport Domain:
- Use transaction
STMS
to access the Transport Management System.- Ensure that the system is part of a transport domain and that the transport routes are correctly defined.
- If necessary, reconfigure the transport domain using the
TMS
configuration.Create Missing RFC Connections:
- If any RFC connections are missing, create them in
SM59
.- Ensure that the connection type is set correctly (e.g.,
3
for TMS connections).Check Authorizations:
- Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to access and manage RFC connections.
- Check roles and profiles assigned to the user.
Transport Directory:
- Verify that the transport directory is correctly set up and accessible.
- Check the transport directory settings in transaction
STMS
under the "Overview" section.System Restart:
- In some cases, restarting the SAP system may help resolve temporary issues with RFC connections.
