  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CONV153 - Time limit (converter or documents) expired. Document: &1 ?

The SAP error message CONV153 indicates that a time limit has expired during a conversion process, which can occur when processing documents in SAP. This error typically arises in scenarios involving data conversion, such as when converting data formats or processing large volumes of data.

    Causes:

    1. Long Processing Time: The document or data being processed may take longer than the allowed time limit, leading to a timeout.
    2. System Performance Issues: If the SAP system is under heavy load or if there are performance bottlenecks, it may not be able to process the document within the expected timeframe.
    3. Configuration Settings: The time limits for conversions may be set too low in the system configuration.
    4. Large Data Volume: Processing large documents or datasets can exceed the time limits set for conversion processes.

    Solutions:

    1. Increase Time Limits:

      • You can adjust the time limits for the conversion process in the SAP system settings. This can typically be done in transaction RZ10 or RZ11 by modifying the relevant profile parameters (e.g., rdisp/max_wprun_time).
    2. Optimize Performance:

      • Check the performance of the SAP system. Ensure that there are no performance bottlenecks, such as high CPU or memory usage, and that the database is optimized.
      • Consider running the conversion process during off-peak hours to reduce load on the system.
    3. Batch Processing:

      • If the document is large, consider breaking it into smaller batches to process them individually, which may help avoid timeouts.
    4. Review Logs:

      • Check the application logs (transaction SLG1) for more detailed information about the error and any related issues that may provide further insights.
