  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message COM_PRODUCT_BOM110 - You are assigning a service product as a component (see long text) ?

The SAP error message COM_PRODUCT_BOM110 typically occurs when you attempt to assign a service product as a component in a Bill of Materials (BOM). This is not allowed in SAP because service products are not physical items and cannot be included in a BOM, which is designed to list physical components that make up a product.

    Cause:

The primary cause of this error is the attempt to include a service product (which is usually defined in the system as a non-stock item or a service) in a BOM. SAP requires that all components in a BOM be tangible items that can be manufactured or procured.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Review the BOM Components: Check the components you are trying to add to the BOM. Ensure that all components are physical products and not service products.

    2. Use Alternative Approaches: If you need to include services in your planning or production processes, consider using alternative methods:

      • Service Master Records: Use service master records for managing services separately from BOMs.
      • Service Orders: Create service orders to manage the execution of services instead of trying to include them in a BOM.
    3. Adjust BOM Structure: If the service is essential to the process, you may need to adjust your BOM structure or create a separate document to manage the service requirements.

    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for more information on BOMs and service products to understand the limitations and best practices.

    5. Check Configuration: If you believe that the service should be allowed in the BOM, check with your SAP configuration team to see if there are any settings that can be adjusted, although typically, this is a standard restriction.

    Related Information:

    • BOM Types: Familiarize yourself with different types of BOMs in SAP (e.g., production BOM, sales BOM, etc.) and their intended use.
    • Service Management in SAP: Understand how SAP handles service management, including service contracts, service orders, and service billing.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might provide additional insights or updates related to this error message.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the error and manage your BOMs effectively without including service products.
