Message text: &1 Range &2 &3: unable to define target interval
The program has determined that a new number range interval is required
for a successful generation of the mapping proposals. Due to some
reasons it is impossible to create a new interval automatically.
The program generates mapping proposals on basis of subobject mappings.
It maps all intervals of the source subobject to the same intervals of
the target subobject. If target subobject does not have an interval with
the same number or year (for year-dependent objects) the program tries
to create it with the same number limits as the source interval.
In some cases automatical creation of new number range intervals is
impossible:
new number range interval will overlap already existing one;
there are several source intervals with different number limits that
should be mapped to the same target interval.
Define corresponding number range intervals for a target subobject with
help of standard SAP transaction SNUM.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- &1 Range &2 &3: unable to define target interval ?The SAP error message CNV_NCE_BAS042 typically occurs during data migration or conversion processes, particularly when using the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit or other data migration tools. This error indicates that there is an issue with defining a target interval for a specific range of data, which can be caused by various factors.
Cause:
- Invalid Range Definition: The error may arise if the range of values specified for a field is not valid or does not conform to the expected format.
- Data Type Mismatch: If the source data type does not match the target data type, it can lead to issues in defining the target interval.
- Missing Configuration: There may be missing or incorrect configuration settings in the migration project that prevent the system from determining the target interval.
- Inconsistent Data: The source data may contain inconsistencies or unexpected values that cannot be mapped to the target structure.
Solution:
- Check Range Definition: Review the range definition for the field in question. Ensure that the values specified are valid and correctly formatted.
- Data Type Verification: Verify that the data types of the source and target fields match. If there is a mismatch, adjust the data types accordingly.
- Configuration Review: Go through the migration project configuration to ensure that all necessary settings are correctly defined. This includes checking mapping rules and transformation logic.
- Data Cleansing: If the source data contains inconsistencies, perform data cleansing to correct any issues before attempting the migration again.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific migration tool you are using for any additional troubleshooting steps or known issues.
