- File contains lines that are wider than data element CNVMBTSHELL_REC ?The SAP error message CNV_MBT_SHELL076 indicates that a file being processed contains lines that exceed the width defined for the data element CNVMBTSHELL_REC. This typically occurs during data migration or conversion processes, particularly when using the SAP Migration Tool (or similar tools) to import data into the SAP system.
Cause:
Line Width Exceedance: The lines in the input file are longer than the maximum length defined for the data element CNVMBTSHELL_REC. This can happen if:
- The data in the file has been incorrectly formatted.
- There are additional characters, such as delimiters or whitespace, that increase the line length.
- The file is generated from a source system that has different formatting rules.
Incorrect File Format: The file may not be in the expected format (e.g., CSV, TXT) or may contain unexpected characters.
Solution:
Check File Format: Ensure that the file is in the correct format and adheres to the expected structure. Verify that it matches the specifications required by the SAP Migration Tool.
Review Line Length: Open the file in a text editor or a spreadsheet application and check the length of each line. Ensure that no line exceeds the maximum length defined for CNVMBTSHELL_REC.
Trim Excess Characters: If there are unnecessary characters or whitespace at the end of the lines, remove them. You can use text processing tools or scripts to automate this if the file is large.
Adjust Data Element Definition: If you have control over the data element definition and it is appropriate for your use case, consider increasing the maximum length of CNVMBTSHELL_REC to accommodate the longer lines. However, this should be done with caution and in accordance with data integrity requirements.
Validate Data: Before reprocessing the file, validate the data to ensure that it meets all the requirements for the migration process.
Test with a Sample: If possible, create a smaller sample of the data that adheres to the expected line length and test the import process with that sample to ensure that the issue is resolved.
