  • What causes this issue?

You are performing a material number conversion in the system and also
wants to reset(cancel) the lexicographic indicator.
    <ZH>Caution</>
In transaction OMSL(Material Number Format), it is only possible to set
or reset (cancel) lexicographic indicator if no numeric material numbers
have been used yet in the system since they would no longer be
interpretable after setting or resetting this indicator.
Currently, new value is numeric in the mapping and this type of value is
not allowed to switch uncheck the lexicographic indicator

    System Response

    Scenarios:
Only alphanumeric exists: If all the materials are alphanumeric in the
system then the lexicographic indicator can be unchecked in the material
number format customization (transaction: OMSL) and then required
conversion should be using scenario Mapping Table OR Mapping Table and
    Number Range
    Numeric material exists:
If target new value for all of them is alphanumeric then do the
conversion in the system with scenario Mapping Table or Lexicographic +
Mapping Table, then the lexicographic indicator can be unchecked in the
material number format customization (transaction: OMSL)
If target new value for any of them numeric then open an incident in
    component CA-LT-CNV.

This error often arises during data migration or conversion processes, especially when using SAP's data migration tools.

    Cause:

    1. Data Inconsistency: The new values being introduced do not meet the validation rules or constraints set in the target system. This could be due to:

      • Incorrect data formats.
      • Values that exceed defined limits (e.g., numeric ranges).
      • Missing mandatory fields.
      • Values that do not exist in the reference tables.
    2. Configuration Issues: The settings in the target system may not be aligned with the incoming data. This could include:

      • Incorrectly configured field settings.
      • Mismatched data types between source and target systems.
    3. Business Rules Violations: The new values may violate specific business rules that have been implemented in the target system.

    Solution:

    1. Data Validation: Review the data being migrated to ensure that it adheres to the required formats and constraints. This may involve:

      • Validating that numeric values fall within acceptable ranges.
      • Ensuring that any reference values exist in the target system.
    2. Adjust Configuration: If the issue is due to configuration settings, you may need to:

      • Review and adjust the field settings in the target system to align with the incoming data.
      • Ensure that any necessary configuration changes are made to accommodate the new values.
    3. Error Logs: Check the detailed error logs provided by the migration tool. These logs can give you specific information about which values are causing the inconsistency.

    4. Testing: After making adjustments, conduct thorough testing to ensure that the data migration process works as expected without triggering the error.

    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the specific migration tool you are using, as they may provide additional insights or updates regarding known issues and their resolutions.
