What causes this issue?

area merge projects it is a common approach to merge all affected dummy
profit centers. However it might be a valid business requirement to keep
the dummy profit centers from the source controlling areas unchanged.
Before proceeding to the next phase of the conversion, make sure the
mapping is in line with the business requirements, or change your
mapping accordingly.
The conversion does not change the assignment of the dummy profit
center. The target dummy profit center will be the dummy profit center
that is currently used by the reference controlling area. If you
specified mapping values for this dummy profit center, the new dummy
profit center will be the target of the old dummy profit center. The
settings of the new dummy profit center are determined by the priority
you specified in the profit center mapping.
