SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message text: Target cost element &2 already exists, implicit merge by CoA rename

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

    When checking the cost elements that you plan to merge, the system found
    that as a result of the chart of accounts change cost element &V1& will
    be changed into target cost element &V2&.
    However target cost element &V2& already exists in the database.
    Target cost element &V2& itself is not used as a source cost element (
    &V2& -> XXXX) for another mapping relation or for an account merge.
    This means that cost element &V1& is in fact merged with existing cost
    element &V2& at <DS:TX.CNV_20100_TX_ASEGMENT>A level</>.
    If the priority indicator is not set, it is not clear which settings
    will take priority when cost elements &V1& and &V2& are merged into &V2&
    . As the affected fields contain only additional information, such as
    the creation date and the person who created he cost element, it is
    acceptable to merge the cost elements without a priority.
    For cost elements, a check for logical correctness at A level is
    required. A merge can be done without any problems. At
    <DS:TX.CNV_20100_TX_BSEGMENT>B level</>, the mapping (&V1& -> &V2&) will
    not result in a merge (each cost element exists only once in the
    controlling area). For this reason, it is not necessary to make any
    temporary additions to the mapping table.

    How to fix this error?

    This message is meant to inform you that you are doing an implicit merge
    of cost elements by changing the 'chart of accounts' field at A level.
    If you want to define which settings will take priority at A level,
    include the mapping &V2& -> &V2& in the mapping table so that it
    includes at least the following entries:
    &V1& -> &V2&
    &V2& -> &V2&
    If necessary, any other mapping with target cost element &V2&.
    Set the prio indicator for one of the entries with target cost element
    &V2& .

    The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    &NOTE&
    As described above, you can also do without these entries. In this case,
    you may want to check the settings for A segment (table CSKA, chart of
    accounts-dependent data for cost elements) for the relevant cost element
    &V2& after the conversion.
    &ADDITIONAL_HINTS&
    Note that you must not set the priority indicator more than <ZH>once</>
    for all merges to a given target account. This is also valid for
    cross-chart of accounts merges.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CNV_20100194 - Target cost element &2 already exists, implicit merge by CoA rename ?

    The SAP error message CNV_20100194 indicates that there is a conflict with the target cost element during a data migration or conversion process. Specifically, it means that the target cost element (identified by &2) already exists in the system, and the system is attempting to perform an implicit merge due to a Chart of Accounts (CoA) rename.

    Cause:

    1. Duplicate Cost Element: The target cost element you are trying to create or migrate already exists in the system. This can happen if the same cost element is being used in multiple contexts or if there was a previous migration that created it.
    2. Chart of Accounts Rename: If the Chart of Accounts has been renamed or modified, it can lead to conflicts where the system tries to merge cost elements that are supposed to be distinct but are now being treated as the same due to the rename.

    Solution:

    1. Check Existing Cost Elements: Before proceeding with the migration, check the existing cost elements in the target system to see if the cost element already exists. You can do this by using transaction codes like KS03 (Display Cost Element) to verify if the cost element is already present.

    2. Adjust Migration Mapping: If the cost element already exists and you do not want to merge it, you may need to adjust your migration mapping to avoid using the same cost element. This could involve renaming the cost element in your source data or changing the mapping logic.

    3. Manual Merge: If the implicit merge is acceptable, you may need to manually review the cost elements and decide how to handle the merging process. This may involve ensuring that the relevant data is consolidated correctly.

    4. Consult Documentation: Review the SAP documentation related to the specific migration or conversion process you are using. There may be specific guidelines or best practices for handling cost elements during the migration.

    5. Contact SAP Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance. They may provide insights specific to your system configuration and the migration process you are undertaking.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as KS01 (Create Cost Element), KS02 (Change Cost Element), and KS03 (Display Cost Element).
    • Migration Tools: If you are using SAP's Migration Cockpit or other tools, ensure that you are following the recommended procedures for handling cost elements.
    • Data Consistency: Always ensure that your data is consistent and that you have backups before performing migrations or significant changes to your system.

    By following these steps, you should be able to address the error message CNV_20100194 effectively.
