Message class: CNV20201 -
Message number: 316
Message text: Target number range is too small! Obj. &1,subobj. &2,NoRg &3,to-year &4
Use of the NRIV renaming rule (shifting) leads to a number overflow of
the target number range for &V1&, subobject=&V2&, number=&V3&,
to-year=&V4&.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Warning!
If the prefix rule is used for the respective number ranges, there is
no number overflow.
Otherwise, there are several possible solutions; with all of them, make
sure that there is no overlap with other existing number ranges for the
same number range object and subobject (and the same to-year).
Possible solutions are:
Extend the target number range by entering a higher to-number in table
CNV_20201_NRIV_N.
Move the target number range by changing the from-number and the
to-number.

CNV20201316
- Target number range is too small! Obj. &1,subobj. &2,NoRg &3,to-year &4 ?The SAP error message CNV20201316 indicates that there is an issue with the target number range being too small for the specified object and sub-object during a data migration or conversion process. This error typically arises in the context of SAP data migration projects, particularly when using the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit or other data migration tools.
Cause:
- Insufficient Number Range: The target number range defined for the object (Obj. &1) and sub-object (subobj. &2) is not large enough to accommodate the data being migrated. This can happen if the number range is set too narrowly or if the data being migrated exceeds the defined limits.
- Configuration Issues: The configuration settings for the number ranges in the target system may not be aligned with the data being imported.
- Data Volume: The volume of data being migrated may exceed the maximum limit defined in the target number range.
Solution:
Adjust Number Ranges:
- Go to the transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects) in the SAP system.
- Identify the relevant number range object and sub-object.
- Increase the number range limits to accommodate the data being migrated.
- Ensure that the new range is sufficient for the expected volume of data.
Check Migration Settings:
- Review the migration settings in the migration tool you are using (e.g., SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit).
- Ensure that the mapping and configuration are correctly set up to match the target system's number range settings.
Data Validation:
- Validate the data being migrated to ensure that it does not exceed the defined limits.
- If necessary, split the data into smaller batches that fit within the defined number range.
Testing:
- After making adjustments, perform a test migration to ensure that the changes resolve the issue.
- Monitor for any further errors or warnings during the migration process.
