  • Message number: 101

  • Message text: The report template for variant &1 does not contain any spec. symbols

  • Show details Hide details
  • CAUSE&
    You specified a <DS:GLOS.3526BF67AFAB52B9E10000009B38F974>generation
    variant</> to which a <DS:GLOS.3526BF6CAFAB52B9E10000009B38F974>report
template</> is assigned that contains no symbols for data in the
specification database. The generation variant cannot therefore be used
to create reports or display the report from the template from within
    the specification hit list.

    System Response

The report is not created. If you simulate the report from the template
from within the specification hit list, the report cannot be displayed.

    How to fix this error?

Use a suitable generation variant. The generation variant must have the
    application object SUBMASTER.
If the specification symbols were inserted in the report template after
the assignment to the generation variant, the application object
SUBMASTER may be missing in the generation variant. Open the relevant
report template and check and save it. During this activity, the
transaction CG2B (Edit Generation Variant) must not be open. After you
save the report template, the application object SUBMASTER should now be
    entered in the generation variant.
Another cause of the error could be a faulty definition of the report
symbol groups 00 and 01. In the IMG activity
<DS:SIMG.EHS_SR_230_10_5>Specify Report Symbol Groups</>, check whether
the report application SUBMASTER is assigned to the report symbol groups
    00 and 01.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CM_REPORT_GEN101 - The report template for variant &1 does not contain any spec. symbols ?

The SAP error message CM_REPORT_GEN101 indicates that the report template associated with a specific variant does not contain any specification symbols. This typically occurs when you are trying to generate a report using a variant that is expected to have certain parameters or symbols defined, but they are missing in the template.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Specification Symbols: The report template linked to the variant does not have the necessary specification symbols defined. Specification symbols are placeholders that allow the report to dynamically pull in data based on the variant's parameters.
    2. Incorrect Variant Configuration: The variant may have been configured incorrectly, or it may not be linked to the correct report template.
    3. Template Corruption: The report template itself may be corrupted or improperly set up, leading to missing symbols.

    Solution:

    1. Check the Report Template:

      • Go to the transaction where the report template is defined (e.g., using transaction codes like SE38 or SE80).
      • Open the report template associated with the variant and verify that it contains the necessary specification symbols.
    2. Update the Variant:

      • If the variant is incorrectly configured, you may need to update it. Go to the variant management screen and ensure that it is linked to the correct report template and that all required parameters are set.
    3. Create a New Variant:

      • If the existing variant is problematic, consider creating a new variant from scratch, ensuring that it is correctly configured with the appropriate report template and specification symbols.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review the documentation for the specific report you are working with to understand what specification symbols are required and how to properly configure the report template.
    5. Contact SAP Support:

      • If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance, especially if you suspect that the report template may be corrupted or if there are underlying issues with the SAP system.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as SE38 (ABAP Editor), SE80 (Object Navigator), and SE93 (Transaction Codes) for managing reports and variants.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to the specific report or error message.
    • User Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to modify report templates and variants, as restrictions may prevent you from making changes.
