  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CM004 - There is no allocation of material to a task list. ?

The SAP error message CM004 ("There is no allocation of material to a task list") typically occurs in the context of production planning and control, particularly when working with task lists (such as routing or production orders) that require specific materials for execution. Here’s a breakdown of the cause, potential solutions, and related information for this error:

    Cause:

    1. Missing Material Allocation: The task list (routing) does not have any materials assigned to it. This can happen if the task list was created without specifying the necessary materials.
    2. Incorrect Task List: The task list being referenced may not be the correct one for the material or production order you are trying to process.
    3. Material Master Data Issues: The material master data may not be properly set up, leading to a lack of linkage between the material and the task list.
    4. Task List Status: The task list may be in a status that does not allow for material allocation (e.g., inactive or deleted).
    5. Configuration Issues: There may be configuration issues in the system that prevent the proper allocation of materials to task lists.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Task List: Verify that the task list you are using has the necessary materials allocated. You can do this by navigating to the task list in the SAP system and checking the components section.
    2. Create/Update Task List: If the task list does not have materials allocated, you may need to create a new task list or update the existing one to include the required materials.
    3. Review Material Master: Ensure that the material master data is correctly set up and that the materials are linked to the appropriate task lists.
    4. Check Task List Status: Make sure that the task list is active and not in a status that would prevent material allocation.
    5. Consult Configuration: If you suspect a configuration issue, consult with your SAP configuration team to ensure that the system is set up correctly for material allocation to task lists.
    6. Use Transaction Codes: Utilize relevant transaction codes such as CA01 (Create Routing), CA02 (Change Routing), or CA03 (Display Routing) to manage task lists and their material allocations.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on task lists, material allocation, and production planning.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with transaction codes related to routing and material management, such as MM01 (Create Material), MM02 (Change Material), and MM03 (Display Material).
    • User Exits and BAdIs: If custom logic is involved, check for any user exits or BAdIs that might affect material allocation.
    • SAP Notes: Search for relevant SAP Notes that might address specific issues related to this error message.
