  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CJ105 - Variance in obj. currency despite availability control in object currency ?

The SAP error message CJ105 indicates that there is a variance in the object currency despite the availability control being set for that object currency. This error typically arises in the context of project management and controlling within SAP, particularly when dealing with project-related costs and budgets.

    Cause:

    1. Currency Mismatch: The error often occurs when there is a discrepancy between the planned costs and the actual costs in the object currency. This can happen if the actual costs are recorded in a different currency or if there are inconsistencies in currency conversion rates.

    2. Availability Control Settings: The availability control settings may not be properly configured for the project or cost object. If the settings do not align with the actual transactions, it can lead to variances.

    3. Budget Exceedance: If the actual costs exceed the budgeted amounts in the object currency, this can trigger the error message.

    4. Posting Errors: Incorrect postings or adjustments in the project accounting can also lead to variances.

    Solution:

    1. Check Currency Settings: Ensure that all transactions related to the project are recorded in the correct currency. Verify that the currency settings for the project are consistent and correctly configured.

    2. Review Availability Control Configuration: Go to the availability control settings for the project and ensure that they are set up correctly. This includes checking the budget, tolerance limits, and any other relevant parameters.

    3. Analyze Actual vs. Planned Costs: Use transaction codes like CJ03 (Display Project) or CJ20N (Project Builder) to review the planned and actual costs. Identify any discrepancies and investigate the source of the variance.

    4. Adjust Budget: If necessary, adjust the budget to accommodate the actual costs. This can be done through transaction codes like CJ30 (Change Budget) or CJ32 (Change Budget for Project).

    5. Consult with Finance Team: If the issue persists, it may be beneficial to consult with your finance or controlling team to ensure that all postings are correct and that there are no underlying issues with the financial data.

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as CJ01 (Create Work Breakdown Structure), CJ02 (Change Work Breakdown Structure), CJ03 (Display Work Breakdown Structure), CJ30 (Change Budget), and CJ20N (Project Builder).

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages (message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.

An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
