The SAP error message C2292, which states "Selection of production version in the batch input," typically occurs during the batch input process when the system is unable to select a valid production version for a material. This can happen for various reasons, and understanding the cause and potential solutions is essential for resolving the issue.
Causes:
- Missing Production Version: The material may not have a production version defined in the system for the specific plant or storage location.
- Incorrect Batch Input Data: The data being fed into the batch input session may be incorrect or incomplete, leading to the inability to select a production version.
- Configuration Issues: There may be configuration settings in the material master or production version settings that prevent the selection of a production version.
- Material Status: The material might be in a status that does not allow for production version selection (e.g., blocked or inactive).
- Plant-Specific Settings: The production version may not be valid for the specific plant or plant settings being used in the batch input.
Solutions:
- Check Production Versions: Verify that the material has a valid production version assigned in the material master (transaction code MM03). Ensure that the production version is active and applicable for the relevant plant.
- Review Batch Input Data: Inspect the data being used in the batch input session for completeness and correctness. Ensure that all required fields are populated correctly.
- Configuration Review: Check the configuration settings related to production versions in the system. This may involve reviewing the settings in the material master and production planning configuration.
- Material Status Check: Ensure that the material is not blocked or inactive. You can check the material status in the material master.
- Test in Transaction: Try to manually create a production order or perform the action that the batch input is trying to execute using the same data. This can help identify if the issue is with the data or the batch input process itself.
- Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or notes related to production versions and batch input for any specific guidance or known issues.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
