  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message C1893 - Characteristic "&" has no object dependencies ?

The SAP error message C1893 indicates that a characteristic in a variant configuration scenario does not have any associated object dependencies. This typically occurs when you are trying to use a characteristic in a configuration profile, but the system cannot find any dependencies that define how that characteristic should behave in relation to other characteristics or objects.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Object Dependencies: The characteristic is defined, but there are no object dependencies (like selection conditions, procedures, or constraints) linked to it.
    2. Incorrect Configuration Profile: The configuration profile may not be set up correctly to include the necessary dependencies for the characteristic.
    3. Characteristic Not Assigned: The characteristic may not be assigned to the relevant object (like a material or class) that requires it.
    4. Data Inconsistency: There may be inconsistencies in the data setup, such as missing links between characteristics and their dependencies.

    Solution:

    1. Check Object Dependencies:

      • Go to the transaction code CU01 (Create Object Dependency) or CU02 (Change Object Dependency) to check if the characteristic has any associated dependencies.
      • If there are no dependencies, you will need to create them based on your business logic.
    2. Assign Characteristics:

      • Ensure that the characteristic is assigned to the correct configuration profile. You can check this in the configuration profile settings (transaction code CU41 for configuration profiles).
    3. Create or Modify Dependencies:

      • If the characteristic needs to have specific behavior, create or modify the object dependencies to include the necessary logic for the characteristic.
    4. Review Configuration Profile:

      • Ensure that the configuration profile is correctly set up to include all necessary characteristics and dependencies. You can do this in the configuration profile settings.
    5. Check for Data Consistency:

      • Review the data setup for any inconsistencies that might be causing the issue. This includes checking the links between characteristics, dependencies, and the objects they are associated with.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • CU01, CU02: For creating and changing object dependencies.
      • CU41: For managing configuration profiles.
      • CU03: For displaying object dependencies.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for Variant Configuration to understand how characteristics and dependencies work together.

    • Testing: After making changes, test the configuration to ensure that the characteristic behaves as expected and that the error message no longer appears.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the C1893 error and ensure that your variant configuration is set up correctly.
