Message text: Inheritance data prevents selection for "&"
You are classifying an object and want to assign values to a
characteristic. However, inheritance data prevents you from doing this.
The system checks whether the object is classified with more than one
class. If it is, the system checks whether the same characteristic is
used in more than one of these classes. If the characteristic has
different values assigned to it in two different class hierarchies, and
the class with which you want to classify your object inherits the
values, you cannot assign a value to the characteristic. The object
must have the same value in both classes. However, in this case the
object would have two different values for the same characteristic, so
no value is assigned to the characteristic.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

C1828
- Inheritance data prevents selection for "&" ?The SAP error message C1828, which states "Inheritance data prevents selection for '&'", typically occurs in the context of SAP's classification system, particularly when dealing with characteristics and classes in the classification hierarchy. This error indicates that there is an issue with the inheritance of characteristics from a super class to a subclass, which prevents the selection of certain objects or characteristics.
Cause:
- Inheritance Issues: The error usually arises when the characteristics defined in a super class are not compatible with the subclass. This can happen if the subclass has specific restrictions or if the inherited characteristics are not properly defined.
- Missing or Incorrect Data: If the subclass is expected to inherit certain characteristics but those characteristics are either missing or incorrectly defined, it can lead to this error.
- Data Consistency: There may be inconsistencies in the classification data, such as incorrect values or types for the characteristics.
Solution:
- Check Class Hierarchy: Review the class hierarchy to ensure that the characteristics in the super class are correctly defined and compatible with the subclass.
- Review Characteristics: Verify the characteristics that are being inherited. Ensure that they are correctly set up in the super class and that there are no restrictions that would prevent their use in the subclass.
- Adjust Inheritance Settings: If necessary, adjust the inheritance settings for the subclass to allow for the selection of the required characteristics.
- Data Consistency Check: Perform a consistency check on the classification data to identify any discrepancies or issues that need to be resolved.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on handling classification and inheritance issues.
