characteristics directly. This function will be available at a later
date. Currently, you can only display inherited characteristics.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
If you still want to assign a value to this characteristic for this
class, enter the characteristic in the class. Then the values assigned
to the characteristic will be inherited.

C1806
- Inherited characteristics cannot be assigned values right now ?The SAP error message C1806, which states "Inherited characteristics cannot be assigned values right now," typically occurs in the context of SAP's classification system, particularly when dealing with characteristics and classes in the material master or classification data.
Cause:
This error usually arises due to one of the following reasons:
Inheritance Issues: The characteristic you are trying to assign a value to is inherited from a higher-level class or object, and the system does not allow direct assignment of values to inherited characteristics in the current context.
Status of the Object: The object (e.g., material, class) may be in a status that does not allow changes. For example, if the object is locked or in a status that restricts modifications.
Configuration Settings: There may be specific configuration settings in the classification system that prevent the assignment of values to inherited characteristics.
Missing Authorizations: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to make changes to the characteristics or classes.
Solution:
To resolve the C1806 error, you can take the following steps:
Check Inheritance: Verify if the characteristic is indeed inherited from a higher-level class. If so, you may need to assign the value at the higher level or change the structure of your classification.
Review Object Status: Ensure that the object you are trying to modify is not locked or in a status that prevents changes. You may need to unlock it or change its status.
Modify Configuration: If applicable, review the configuration settings in the classification system to see if there are restrictions on assigning values to inherited characteristics. You may need to consult with your SAP administrator or configuration team.
Check Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to the characteristics. If not, contact your system administrator to obtain the required permissions.
Use Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like CL02 (Change Class) or CL03 (Display Class) to check the class and its characteristics. This can help you understand the structure and inheritance better.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for more detailed information on classification and characteristics.
