    You cannot assign a characteristic to text symbol &V1& for one of the
    following reasons:
    An invalid characteristic name was used in the text symbol.
    An invalid characteristic number was used in the text symbol. This
    error may occur, for example, if you manually define a text symbol in
    the process instruction assistant. When you exit the assistant, the
    connection to the characteristic is lost because the assistant assigns
    the final characteristic numbers only now.

    The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

    RESET N1
    Delete the incorrect text symbol.
    In the process instruction assistant, place the cursor at the position
    in the text where you want to insert the text symbol.
    Choose <LS>Edit</> -> <LS>Insert</> -> <LS>Text symbol</>.
    Copy the characteristic to which you want to refer with the text
    symbol.
